In July 2009 City-Wide Redeemer partnered with churches from around the country to send nearly 30 men and women into orphanages in and around the third largest city in Haiti--Les Cayes. The villages we visited each left a lasting impression on our team of four, but none quite like that of Cherette.
So, this past July, we sent another team--this time 5 people to work in Cayes for a few days and to spend two days in Cherette. Coming out of our time in Cherette each team member was convinced that it would be further involved with the church, orphanage, and village at large.
Our Missional Communities have collaborated with churches in South Florida and Metro Chicago to form a network for the sake of the people in Cherette. The network will work to get a fresh water well dug, to build a levy system to protect the orphanage from the river, and to increase the staff of "mamas" who provide 24 hour care for the 132 orphans who live there. Our work will also involve the development of relationships with each of the orphans as we seek to improve nutrition, health, education.
To be involved relationally with the 25 orphans that our CWR Missional Communities sponsor, and to learn more about upcoming trips for 2011, visit any one of our Missional Communities for their next gathering.
